The Imaginary 'Green Man' Have you ever considered the amount of petrol, pollution and stress involved in waiting for 'The Green Man' - the imaginary man who, at least half of the time, never appears, to walk across the busy junction where you wait in or on your vehicle, immobile and impotent.
It's a crime, a waste of resources, a huge amount of uneccessary pollution. In my opinion, based on what I experience every day in South West London, fuel burning and pollution by waiting vehicles could be reduced by at least 10% by making every 'Green Man' junction manually operated, all the time. There is no public safety issue here. Roads are for motor vehicles and bikes - the more bikes and fewer vehicles the better as far as I'm concerned. Pedestrians have to take care and be alert when crossing them. Why should permanent 'Green Man' junctions take away that responsibility? Most pedestrians would agree with less pollution and congestion. Lets do something about it... alert the Mayor and the Government soon, before we slip even further into submission whilst watching the exhaust gases increase still further. |
