Pound coinsThe United Kingdom is one of the most hospitable countries in the world and benefits from being home to people from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. However, there will, of course, always be those who abuse Britain's generous welfare system. Recent reports on BBC Radio have suggested that there are those who have settled here, who are doing just this. Apparently, there has been a significant increase in men, who having married more than wife (quite legitimately according to their home countries’ laws) come to Britain and claim benefits for all of them.

In fact, these ingenious fellows are exploiting the welfare system to the full. They have cottoned on to the fact that if they go home and marry more women and relocate them to the UK, they will get even more money from the British taxpayer.

Whilst most Britons are strongly in favour of the rich multicultural society that the UK has become since the end of the Second World War, most would think that something really is amiss here and that something should be done without further delay. If a man who was born and is resident in the UK were to attempt to marry here for a second time, perhaps because he is bored with his current wife but can’t be bothered to divorce, it would be pointed out in no uncertain terms that he would be facing a stint at Her Majesty's pleasure if he proceeded.

It not uncommon nowadays to hear the mantra, “If you want to live in Britain you should want to live here because you agree with how we live and the basic principles we try to uphold”. Yob culture aside, which hopefully government will start to do something about before they all kill each other, it would seem fair to expect that.

If a Briton goes on a “Sodomising Sojourn” to Utah - before you look, we can find no tour operators who cater for this - and ends up having partaken in the act described by the verb of the holiday’s title with a string of (let us assume) consenting women during his two week tour, he would be looking at six months in prison and a hefty fine. The fine may not be so much of a problem as the US Dollar is currently very reasonable, however, if he was reasonably good-looking, a stretch in a US jail may well find him on the other end of a buggery holiday in Utah!

Similarly, if he decided to go on a drinking binge in a number of Muslim countries, he would (a) find it very difficult to find any booze and (b) have Allah knows what done to him when he got caught.

It could be said quite without contention that, if he pointed out in either place, to the relevant authorities, that he felt he had committed no crime as the practice in question is not illegal in his country of origin, he would quite rightly receive very short shrift. It could be said with even more confidence that they would not turn around and offer him cash for doing it!

You seem to have carefully avoided making this a racist observation. I believe that we need to start embracing our cultural differences and I commend you for the courage you have exhibited in actually starting a debate around a sensitive subject.
